SAN GERONIMO RESIDENCE

The home is developed as a series of blocks, arranged to create outdoor spaces which are the most important part of the design. Located on a remote site in West Marin county, this approach puts the surrounding forest and distant foothills in tension with the home’s intimate yards and courts. The primary space of the home is like a pavilion, with raised roof and predominantly glass walls, oriented to the pool and views.
The previous home at this site was crushed by a tree, and we reused the benched zone on the slope for our project. Our client intended to build the project himself, so to simplify construction we approached the project as a ‘kit of parts’ with repetitive details, consistent window and door heights, strict datums and flat roofs.
